My heart sunk when Jen didn't answer the door. I cursed myself. I shouldn't be let down to see my best friend. His face is supposed to make me happy. But he has her. He gets to hold her and be married to her and...
My eyes drift to the kid he's holding. Who the hell was this little asshole?

"What's up?" I asked, moving aside to let him in. Gale had interested himself in kicking me in the stomach, trying to get away. So I let him down, to inspect Shawn. Which is exactly what he did. Run up to Shawn that is, and stare at him.

I go into the apartment and look down at the child who was inspecting me so intently. A sick feeling turned my stomach around. was this kid from Jen and Danny? I knew they had Callie already but geez, how fast were these guys moving? No, that didn't make sense. This kid was too old. Unless they had him years ago...Oh God. Just ask, you idiot!!

"This is Gale. My son. Long story." I say, "HEY JEN, SHAWN'S HERE!" I yelled, knowing she could make the awkward conversation better. Why the frig was I being so awkward? I've known Shawn for years.

Long story. I cringed. How long had these guys actually been together?
I come in, "Hey Shawn!" I smiled.
Damn that smile of hers. "Hey Jen! How you doing?"
"Well it's a little hectic here tonight. We have all of the children here. Well, all of my children. Which is an alarming amount of children."
I laugh outside, crying inside. So funny and so painful.

"WHO ARE YOU?!" Gale yells, after ten minutes of staring. I should know, I timed it. Then he ran away, before he could get an answer.

I laugh, "I must apologize for that one. But in my defense, he's not my child."
I breathe again. Thank the gods.
"So Shawn, what brings you here tonight?"
I look at her, then at Danny. What did bring me here tonight? Jen brought me here tonight. No. My stupid self brought me here. There was only one thing to do. My palms were sweaty and my heart was racing, "Danny? Could I talk to you for a minute?"

"Uhh Sure." I say, awkwardly. Damn you'd think almost dying next to the guy would make things easier, but I just couldn't shake off the awkwardness.

I look at them, one after the other. Was Shawn going to tell Danny about what he said before the wedding? My heart pounded. Shawn was big. That was true. But Danny could level him in a heartbeat if he felt threatened. My eyes meet Shawn's. "What are you doing!?" I mouth to him silently.
I wave her off and go outside.

"Put together." I mumbled, to busy being paranoid to explain which kid came from which parent. "What's the sudden interest in how these kids are mine?" I asked, trying to hurry him along.

"Things that...maybe would not resonate with her husband. Like...things that would imply that I kind of...had feelings for her." I try to steady my shaking hands and racing heart, "Danny, I wasn't thinking, okay? I didn't know she even knew you when I met her and she's just so...Well you know. You know how she is, you married her. But Danny, I swear - I never would have even seen her as a normal girl if I knew you were engaged when I met her. It just...all happened so fast."

I looked up at the ceiling trying to control my anger. "So, let me get this straight, you're trying to tell me that you, my friend that has saved my life countless times and vise versa managed to developed an attraction to my wife, and decided to mention to her on our wedding day?" I say, possibly in the calmest voice I could manage. Which, to be honest has been on point lately cause Gale can be a handful sometimes.

We both know you're not the best guy to get angry, right? No one kicks ass like Danny. But hear me out buddy, I would never do anything about my feelings. The only reason I told her was...damnit, I don't know why I told her I just had to. I mean, think how this is for me, man. This girl comes out of nowhere and gives me feelings I didn't know I had and then I find out she's marrying my best friend. Not only does that hurt, but I feel guilty too."

And maybe I told you this so we could talk it out and get it over with so I can just be your friend again without feeling like im withholding some huge secret that would change your life? I told you so that you wouldn't get all uneasy if I ever start acting different. So you would never blame yourself. So you know that when I go crazy, it's my own fault!"
