"Sweetie while that may be true here in the east, there is still a lot of stuff that is wrong with the system that deals with Native American politics. Most of our people live in poverty, and are treated like dirt, by the people in the white towns outside the borders." My mom explains. "Most reservations don't even have hospitals, or fire stations, sometimes not even police."

"Don't listen to him, that's only if we were to ever move onto a reservation." I say, "Dad you're taking this way worse then I thought you would."

"Ok, but I figured I'd only get yelled at for that, not the fact, that my wife is white, and our child is only half native American." I say, "PLUS ITS NOT LIKE NOBODY IN OUR FAMILY HAS NEVER MARRIED A WHITE PERSON BEFORE! Aunt Mara is Irish!" I add, to my dad.
Mom rolled her eyes, "Ya'll are children. Daniel you know the only thing you're mad at is because the bill didn't pass, and now we're loosing more land. That's not Jen's fault. Danny, stop antagonizing your father. Both of you are annoying. Plus, is that my grandchild crying?"

"Yes it is. Because her granddaddy is a little louder than we're accustomed to in this house." I say, making eye contact with Danny's dad.
I go and get Callie, who is screaming and crying and pulling on my hair. I bring her over to Danny's mom.

"Ahhh she looks just like you Jen!" Mom says taking her from Alex. She instantly stops crying.
I smiled, and glanced over at my dad. Kind of happy my hair had started to grow back since the military, or else I was really dead. Eean would be dead when he got here.

I take a few seconds before breaking off serious eye contact with Danny's dad. I look at Danny's mom and smile, "Thank you. She has Danny's nose though, which is better than getting mine."

"She's such a sweet child. Danny was a monster. She must take after you." Mom laughs, and continues to play with Callie.
"I wasn't that bad." I mumbled.
"Oh Danny, you never shut up. I didn't sleep for months." She laughs.
"Hey guys what's up?" I say walking through the door. "Oh crap, you guys are visiting." He says, seeing parents.
"Dude you picked the wrong time." I say, pointing to his head.
"Shoot, hey, dad! So it's not what it looks like! I have a perfectly good reason, on why I have no hair. I promise."
"Do you really though?" He asks, and takes him by the arm dragging him out the front door. Probably to yell at him.
"He's so dead." I laugh. "Hey mom, do you wanna meet mine and Alex's kid too? I think she's out in the living room playing with Emma and Gale!"
"Oh that would be lovely." Mom says, following Aria to the living room. But first she hands Danny his kid back, "And Jen don't let my stupid husband get too you! He's quite old fashioned, and frankly his opinion doesn't matter." She tells her, then walks into the living room.

"Haha, yeah." I say as if it doesn't bother me. But there was a tugging in my heart that told me something was still off about tonight. Danny's father was just a little too familiar for my taste. At least he said what he meant though and didn't just resort to physical violence. I see a flash of my dad in my head and shiver. Anyway.
"Let's see, where's that child of ours." I go into the other room with all the children, "Shoot, which one is ours, again?"

"Jen, you ok?" I asked.

"Oh, there she is!" I say, picking Devon up.
"I'm fine," I say, unconvincingly, "This whole situation just feels a little too familiar." There's a knock at the door. I raise my head.
I look at Jennifer, who was just standing there, frozen. I guess she wasn't going to get that. I give Devon to Aria and go open the door.
"Oh, I see you're still around." said Jen's mom.
I instinctively shut the door.
"Alex!" I say, turning around, "Who was that?"
I make eye contact with Jen, showing her my helpless stare, "It was no one." The door creaked open and Jennifer's parents walked in.
I let out a small gasp.

".......Well don't everybody jump up at once." says Jen's mom.
"Uh...mom. What uh-what are you doing here?"
"A mother can't visit her daughter any time she pleases?" says Jen's dad.
I feel a chill go threw my whole body, primarily straight down my spine and through my legs, to my toes. I hadn't felt that helpless in a long time. I clenched my fists as I tense up all around. I knew Alex was going through the same thing. My dad's voice just did that to people.
"Well I certainly didn't teach you to neglect introductions." says Jen's mom.
"Yes, who is this young man standing so close to you?" Says jen's dad smugly, in reference to Danny.
I'm too frozen to speak.

"I'm her husband." I say, shortly. I could vaguely hear my own dad and brother fighting in the next room over, and part of me wanted to go in and make them stop. This was not going to end well.
"Hey, daddy, who's that?" Devon asks, still in Alex's arm. "Can I go play with grandma again?" she was telling a funny story!" She asks innocently.

"Oh, another one!" says Jen's mom, "Tell me, Jennifer, is this one yours too?"
"Wouldn't be surprised," says Jen's Dad, "I knew Jennifer and Alexander wouldn't stop at one child."
"I'm not her mother," I said flatly.
"Oh I see," says Jen's mom, "So it was that easy to move on from my daughter, then?" she says, turning to Alex, "Give her a baby girl and we never hear from you again! You know, she cried for weeks over you, Alexander."
"Okay, well that's my queue to leave," I pick up Devon, "Because I have my own mother and I don't need my ex girlfriend's mother treating me like her son." I go into the other room with Devon.
"Jennifer, I swear, if Emma turns out a bit like that boy, I fear for her future!"
I look at Danny like he's supposed to do something.

"Hey you all wanna shut up or get out of my house?" I ask, simply. "BECAUSE I DIDNT FREAKING BUY IT FOR ASSHOLES TO WALK IN AND MAKE TROUBLE FOR MY FAMILY!" I yell, "If you have a problem, then leave!" I add.
I raise an eyebrow. Well crap, I follow Alex into the other room.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!" My dad yells, walking into the living room. Eean follows, looking kind of like a confused idiot, but what's new?
"YOU CAN LEAVE TOO!" I yell.

"Do you want you're children to grow up to be ticking time bombs, like this kid? Where'd you pick up this one, Jennifer? One of the bars you work?"
"I'm not sure, but I think my father just called me a prostitute."
"She's not a prostitute, dear," said jen's mom, "They're smart enough to use birth control."
"Mom! What the hell is your damage!? Sorry I have more than two kids! Sorry I'm not exactly like you when it comes to parenting! Do you want me to get rid of all but two? Huh? Want me to pick a favorite and sweep the other one under the rug her entire life!?"
"Jennifer, we never did that with you!"
"Oh yeah!? Then why weren't you at the wedding!"
"Because no one told us there was gonna be one."
"Yeah, you ever wonder why I didn't want you there!?" I pick up Cody, who was the closest baby to me, and go into my bedroom and shut the door, locking it.
"Geez, its like highschool all over again in here."

"THAT IS N-!" My dad starts.
I hold up my hand, to make him shut up. "Like I just said, if you are going to come into my house, and treat my family like dirt, then leave. Mom can stay, but you can get the hell out." I say, adding more words in Native American, then I turn back to Jen's family. "You too, get out or... You know what, just get the hell out. Clearly you think you can come in here and judge us both, but since you are the LAST people on earth who should judge anyway, just get the hell out!" I say to them.
"Kayi-" My dad starts using my real name.
"Don't go there! I'm not disowning anything, ok? I want my kids to have chances I didn't, and if that means, moving 500,000 miles away from the reservation, then so be it." I said, calmly. "The fact that you think I could possibly give up my life there for nothing is unbelievable even for you, and you know it! And while I'm on it, Eean cut his hair for a real reason. So stop acting like a asshole."
"Damn." I mumbled.

"That's just about enough, son!" Jen's dad says, stepping forward.
I take an involuntary step back.
"You need to learn to treat your father with more respect. I'm sure you'd feel disrespected of one of your children spoke to you that way. Frankly, this entire family, yours, mine, everything in between, needs to learn a thing or two about decency!"
"Decency!? Ha! You pointed a gun at my face!"
"You got my daughter pregnant!"
"You hit your daughter to the point where she flinches every time she hears someone raise they're voice!"
"Don't go there, boy! You try raising a girl with no morals!"
"Oh, because she's the one with no morals! She would never lay a finger on her any of her children!"
"Alexander!" said Jen's mom, "She married without telling us! And too an angry maniac!"

"WILL YOU SHUT UP!" I yell again, at Jen's dad. "Stop acting like you're a good parent, at least my children are happy, at least my children feel safe. Unlike Jen does around you. And if me being a angry maniac is the reason then I'm completely fine with it."
My dad stood there not saying anything. Then he glared at Jen's dad. "Do not come into my sons house and judge him. I suggest you do as my son said to earlier, leave. Me and you are very different. But to our children we are the same. Holding them back. They can make their own choices, they are adults."
I glanced at my dad. I was not expecting that. Well I was just not for another month or so.... My eyes widened. Well everyone's did. But that's cause he went all wise chief.

I had been listening through the door. I stand there, shocked, with my ear to the lock. I stand up and let the door creak open.
"Danny....you're dad is cool," I hear myself say.
"Sir, I supposed you expect me to respect you now," I step forward, "Well I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you'll find I am not a reasonable man."
"Okay, I think we've proved our point, it's time to leave."
"Yes!" I walk into the room, "Time to leave! Thanks for stopping by, seeya!"

"Okay..." I opened the door, "But don't expect us to be around anymore. I hope you liked having parents because you don't anymore." We leave.
"....After all that, they think I would have a problem with that?"
